Zac Efron was born on October 18, 1987 in San Luis,
Obispo, California. He grew
up in nearby Arroyo Grande. Zac’s
full name is Zachary David Alexander Efron.
Zac lives at home with his parents, and his younger brother,
Dylan. Zac has two dogs,
Australian Shepherds named Dreamer and Puppy, and a Siamese cat named
Simon. In his free time, Zac likes to golf, ski, snowboard and rock
climb. He recently started
to surf after spending time near the ocean, on the set of Summerland.
Zac first started acting at the age of 11 when he
started taking singing lessons and got a role in a local production of
“Gypsy“, that ran for 90 performances.
That was when Zac knew he wanted to become an actor and singer,
performing in front of an audience. After that first role in Gypsy, Zac then went on to
take roles in many other local stage productions including Peter Pan,
Auntie Mame, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Music Man. In 2002, he started getting small roles and guest appearances
on many TV shows such as ER, Firefly, NCIS and Summerland.
His appearance on Summerland led to the recurring role of Cameron
Bale, for which he started to gain notoriety.
What really skyrocketed Zac to fame was the 2006 release of the
hit Disney TV movie, High School Musical, in which Zac has a lead role
acting and singing. Zac became the first artist to debut with two songs
that reached the charts in the same week, “Getcha Head in the Game”,
a solo, and “Breaking Free”, a duet with Vanessa Anne Hudgens. Both
songs are from the movie “High School Musical”.
Zac graduated from high school this June and hopes to
attend the University of Southern California.
He just finished working on a new TV show pilot for FOX called
“If You Lived Here, You’d Be Home Now” and a movie due out this
year “The Derby Stallion”. He
will begin working on High School Musical 2 soon. Although he sings in
his recent movie, Zac wants to concentrate on acting right now.
