Chapter 5

"So tell me: where are you?" asked Zac.
"Driving," said Danielle-Rachelle.
"You're driving around at eleven thirty?" asked Zac.
"Yeah; I couldn't sleep," said Danni. "What're you doing up this late?"
"I just got back to my hotel room," said Zac.
"Oh really? From where might I ask?" said Danni-Rae.
"Oh. I was out with some friends," said Zac.
"Cool, cool. So, what'd you guys do?" asked Danielle.
"We went out to eat after rehearsal," said Zac.
"Hmm. How fun. So, why'd you call me?" asked Danielle.
"Did you not want to talk to me, or what?" Zac asked.
"No, of course I wanna talk to you," said Danielle.
"So you DO wanna talk to me," said Zac.
"Of course I wanna talk to you, Zac!" said Danni-Rae, happily. "So, why did you call me?"
"Because..." said Zac.
"Because you were thinking of me?" asked Danielle.
"That may be a reason, or I might just be calling you because I'm bored," said Zac.
"Oh, so what were you thinking about me?" asked Danni acting like she hadn't even heard the last part of his sentence.
"I was wondering what you were doing," said Zac.
"Aha. So, when are we going to be able to have that coffee we've been thinking about? We never did finish, you know."
"I dunno. I was kinda thinking about dinner instead."
"Sounds good to me," said Danni-Rae.
"How about tomorrow at eight thirty?" he asked.
"Why so late?" asked Danielle-Rachelle.
"I dunno what time I'll be through with work," said Zac.
"Alrighty then," said Danni.
"Aren't you going to have to call your parents and brother?" he asked, mocking her a bit. She laughed.
"Hey!" she said. "No, but really, I don't have to; not on a Saturday."
"How many brothers and sisters do you have?"
"Two brothers and one sister."
"Oh, that's cool."
"How many brothers and sisters do you have?"
"Only one brother," said Zac. Danielle pulled back into her driveway.
"What're you doing now?" asked Danielle.
"I am...sitting down on a couch. What're you doing?" asked Zac.
"Getting out of my car," said Danielle.
"What're you going to do?" asked Zac.
"Well, I'll probably talk to you for a while longer, then go catch some z's," she replied.
"What're you doing tomorrow?" asked Zac.
"Uh...besides going out with you?"
"Yep," said Zac.
"Well, I'm going to baby-sit my kids-that's a given-and maybe my neighbor," Danielle said.
"You have kids?!" asked Zac.
"No! I was talking about my brother and sister," said Danni-Rae.
"Oh. Are you good with kids?"
"I dunno. Kind of, I guess."
"Don't you want kids someday?"
"Someday. No time soon."
"Do you watch TV.?"
"Well...considering I'm not Amish and there are boring times during the day, so yeah," said Danielle-Rachelle.
"What do you like to watch?" asked Zac.
"'Friends', 'TRL', 'The Simpsons', Gilmore Girls', '7th Heaven' sometimes, and that's about it," said Danni. "What do you like to watch?"
"I dunno. whatever's on, I guess," said Zac. "What're you doing?"
"Now, I'm sitting down on my bed," she said. "Why do we keep asking each other what we're doing?"
"Well, I'm doing it to stay on the phone with you longer. I dunno why you're doing it," said Zac.
"I dunno why I'm doing it either," said Danielle.
"Maybe you're doing it for the same reason I'm doing it," said Zac.
"Hmm...well, maybe," said Danni.
"That 'maybe' sounds a whole lot like a 'yes' to me," said Zac.
"May-be..." said Danni-Rae. She heard Zac laugh, a little. There was a silence. "Do you have to be up early?"
"Yeah," said Zac.
"And you're on the phone this late? Don't you need sleep?" asked Danni.
"Yes and no," said Zac.
"Oh, and how is that?" asked Danni-Rae.
"Well, yes because I will eventually get tired and no because I'm already used to it," Zac said.
They stayed on the phone for another hour asking random questions about each other. Then, Danni-Rae had to go to sleep.
